Testimonials from our New York City Winter Workshop 2022 and 2023 participants:
“The NVA & Guests Winter workshop was the perfect start to my year. I was reminded that I am not alone- I am immersed in the NYC dance community. I pushed my boundaries and found new limits to my artistry with the generous artists that surrounded me in the workshop.” Tori Mazzacone (NYC Winter Workshop 2023)
“This workshop is all about diving into community, sharing knowledge, and allowing for space to fail. NVA and Guests strives to remain curious in how they teach and collaborate with artists. It was wonderful to meet new people and develop not just movement knowledge, but friendships.” Alyssa Myers (NYC Winter Workshop 2023)
“I loved my experience at NVA & Guests, and left feeling refreshed and excited about the possibilities in the dance world. I felt excited by our creative processes each day, and the panel discussions opened my eyes to new avenues and opportunities in dance.” Kenzie Ginter (NYC Winter Workshop 2023)
“I'm so thankful to my past self for taking the leap and signing up for the NVA & Guests Winter Workshop. In these last 5 days, I've connected with new people in my community, received great artistic tools from a loving faculty, and gained even more appreciation for the art form that I've been in love with my entire life. The people in a space can really make or break your experience, and every single one of these artists came in full force with their generous spirits and strong bodies. It was so special!” Anonymous (NYC Winter Workshop 2023)
“NVA & Guests workshops challenged my practice in a multitude of ways not just limited to the physical. I found myself learning how to integrate comedic acting into my work, how to best present myself for all different kinds of auditions, and getting insight from active professionals at all levels of their careers and coming from various pathways. I think it's important that participants of these workshops can relate to the people that are teaching and preaching to them and I truly felt that in this workshop. It made me feel like what I am working toward is possible and that there is a community surrounding me willing to uplift and support me. I was inspired, developed friendships, and felt a lot of personal and professional growth throughout this intensive. What more could I ask for?” Cristina Moya-Palacios (NYC Winter Workshop 2023 Scholarship Recipient)
“This workshop is so beneficial for professional/pre-professional dancers. Not only are we provided physical tools but we are provided advice on how to survive and exist as freelance dancers post pandemic. This advice comes from professionals working in our field so the guidance feels tangible and realistic. It gives us a great understanding on what to expect as we re-enter the dance industry . It feels so affirming to be surrounded by like minded artists, offering their support, knowledge and love to the workshop and its participants.” Tashae Udo (NYC Winter Workshop 2023 Scholarship Recipient)
“There is nothing more rewarding than to be surrounded by people who leave you in awe and make you feel seen. I feel so grateful for the friends I have made and for adding new inspirations into my life. Forever changed through meeting these people.” (Anonymous)
“NVA & Guests reignited my flame and gave me a yearning to want more for and from my art. It's hard to see outside of the scope of what we are told to do, and this intensive breaks that mold, in a supple way, teaching us strength comes from softness. I loved this intensive and I can't wait to do another one!” (Anonymous )
“The weekend was full of investigation and exploration in a space where I, as the artist, felt truly supported. The classes felt thoughtfully curated and poignant. It was such a beautifully immersive experience.” (Anonymous)
“This workshop provides a great environment to hone your craft. The faculty is supportive; generously sharing techniques and knowledge gathered throughout their careers and encouraging every dancer to grow outside their comfort zone. Also, this is workshop isn't about competing with the dancer next to you. It's about cheering each other on and building each other up, so we can succeed together.” (Anonymous)
“The NVA & Guests Intensive was a supportive, nurturing, yet challenging space for me to hone new skills, develop greater sensitivities to being in my body in new ways, and experience a collaborative generative choreographic process. All of the dancers and faculty were of a generous and deeply thoughtful spirit, which really forged a rich creative environment.” (Anonymous)
“I highly recommend participating in a NVA & Guests workshop- you will sweat, laugh, learn, grow, expand, and build community.” (Anonymous)
“The environment was set-up with such inclusive and positive energy - which is exactly what I feel like our community needs right now. I was so grateful for a space to just learn with my friends and colleagues, with no other outcome than to explore.” (Anonymous)
