ABOUT THE CLASSES

“Cry Wolf” Repertoire

Throughout NVA & Guests’ NYC Winter Workshops, participants will dive into sections of the company’s newest production, Cry Wolf. They’ll not only learn choreography from the piece but also explore the creative process and intention behind each movement, understanding how the work was developed from the inside out. This segment will be led by members of the original Cry Wolf cast, offering a rare opportunity to experience the material directly from the artists who helped bring it to life.

“Cry Wolf” Partnering

Another major focus of the NVA & Guests Winter Workshop is an in-depth exploration of the company’s distinctive partnering vocabulary, an essential element present in all their works. Dancers will dive into the physicality, sensitivity, and trust required in partnering, discovering new ways to share and receive weight through tactile feedback and responsive engagement. This immersive experience will not only deepen participants’ understanding of connection and collaboration but also offer creative tools to expand their movement vocabulary while learning excerpts from Cry Wolf.

Contemporary Ballet

Each morning will begin with a ballet class designed specifically for contemporary dancers, taught by one of NVA & Guests’ close collaborators. This class focuses on deepening body awareness and technical understanding while making space for individuality and self-expression through choice-making. Dancers are encouraged to explore improvisational ideas within classical form, connecting to ballet as an inner process of curiosity and sensation rather than an outward product of perfection.

Q&As

We’ll close both day with a Q&A featuring members of NVA & Guests. These informal conversations are a space for dancers to ask questions about navigating a freelance career in New York City, exploring opportunities for choreography, and understanding the differences between freelancing in Europe and the U.S. Each chat will be shaped by the guest artist and the interests of the group.
