James Brill - ACTING
James Brill has been teaching acting in New York for over two decades both privately and at The Neighborhood Playhouse. In 1983 he graduated from The Playhouse where he studied acting with legendary teacher Sanford Meisner. After graduation he began his career as an actor and has worked in theatre, film, & television. Early on Jim was drawn to the idea being a Meisner instructor and began an apprenticeship under his artistic mentors from the Neighborhood Playhouse to learn the craft of teaching acting. In addition to being a faculty member at The Playhouse for many years he has also taught at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC, and runs a successful private studio in NYC.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The Meisner Acting Workshop is an introduction to the acting technique developed by the late master acting teacher Sanford Meisner. “ The Meisner Technique”as it is commonly known is taught all over the world and has strongly influenced several generations of gifted actors. Over the long course of his teaching life, Sanford Meisner developed one of the most significant and comprehensive approaches to actor training. In its full form the Meisner technique takes the actor through all of the essential craft stages which the actor must master. In our workshop we will introduce you to the basic principles of the work and the foundation exercises which set the stage for all the training that follows. To learn more about Sanford Meisner and his technique please visit the website of The Neighborhood Playhouse. For sixty years, Mr. Meisner developed his work at this renowned acting conservatory. Although the work has spread across the globe the Neighborhood Playhouse is still considered “The Home of the Meisner Technique.”

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Kayla loves to build slippery dreamscapes, scenes, and narratives that weaves through our feelings, experiences, and relationships as we allow them to unfold, move, build, and deconstruct. We will move through honesty, discovery, and questioning. Often combining form, filmmaking, writing, and sound score, we will explore what is possible. We will play empowering instinct, failure, curiosity, being lost in games, developing scores, mixtures of mediums, and phrase material. Dream on….understanding the rules to break them...
