NINE premiere

For a short period, this year 2020, the world stopped. And for most of us, we were finally able to daydream. Or could we? 

From morning to night, standing in line, or waiting at the doctor’s office, we can check our emails, Instagram, or the latest TikTok challenge. We are constantly swept into the fast-pasted digital universe. From social media, to the News and even cartoons, everything feels like it’s been sped up and condensed so whatever message is behind the image, it’s delivered quickly.  

In this performance NVA, influenced by her theatrical and dance experiences, will attempt to portray nine different characters and emotions. And as she pirouettes, slow strips and delivers a voiceless monologue, she also invites the audience to participate in the unfolding of the show with a game of raising your hand. 

This evening length solo show is a playful satire of our daily lives and an attempt to slow down Time.

Choreographers Marielis Garcia and Nicole von Arx seek to question the neutrality of, or lack thereof, bodies in space.

To remain objective invites a sense of neutrality - can bodies of gender, color, or experience ever be neutral? Perhaps we do not want them to be.

Objective Bodies is a shared evening of choreography by Swiss artist Nicole von Arx and New York artist Marielis Garcia. Each artist will premiere two different dance works revolving around the social implications that directly affect the way we attend to, take notice of and develop within our own bodies.

Inspired to review the implicit power of gender and the ways biopower effect the way we experience various bodies in motion; this shared evening is an exploration of our bodily experience.
